MMA Gloves and Clothing for The Amateur And Professional

Tired of the same old moves and the same rehearsed scripts in the popular combat sports these days? More and more people are turning to mixed martial arts because of the variety and genuine thrill of the battle that MMA possesses. For fans of MMA who want to get their hands on the sport as well as for the professionals who are already well acquainted with the game, getting in the game and performing well can be done – if you have the right gear. Here are the MMA gloves and MMA clothing that you should be acquainted with.

Tape
Before moving on to the gloves, you should be equipped with the right type of tape bandage. Especially in professional mixed martial arts, you will need to wrap your hands in bandage before every battle. The protective layer will ensure that your hands are protected not only from combat but even from your gloves. In extreme combat positions, even the fine lining on your gloves can be very painful, which is why taping the hands is a standard practice for MMA practitioners. In taping your hand, be sure that your fingers still have enough room for movement, since there are plenty of MMA techniques that require dexterity. Grappling, for instance, can only be executed properly if you have ample hand movement.

Gloves
Now that your hands are protected by the initial layer of bandage, the next step is to find yourself MMA gloves. The standard gloves used are fitted open fingered gloves. The opened fingers allow you to get literally a good feel of your opponent, which is very important in battle. Open fingered gloves also allows you to move your fingers more, which is crucial in executing some of the more elaborate moves in Thai martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and others. When choosing your gloves, make sure that the opened edges are comfortable and that the stitching around the open fingers are fine enough to make finger movement as comfortable as possible. As much as possible, the gloves should also have interior lining to make it more comfortable and should have strong double stitching – after all, you will use your gloved hands in one of the most action packed sport.

Shorts
The official body clothing for MMA is MMA shorts and nothing more. Kimonos and other robes are prohibited since these can be used for hiding weapons or as a way of subduing the opponent. The best shorts are those that fit snugly on the body through strong waist bands. Make sure that your shorts are made from tough fabrics since one of the popular disciplines in mixed martial arts is ground fighting, where you will spend much of the combat on the floor. Getting your shorts ripped in the middle of battle is a hassle that you do not want to be faced with.

Keep in mind that different mixed martial arts traditions and competition organizations have variations on the rules when it comes to the MMA clothing used in the sport. Consult the regulatory board to see if there are specific glove types which are recommended, or if there are length requirements when it comes to the shorts. You may also need BJJ gear and Muay Thai gear when necessary. With these clothing at the ready, you can begin taking part of the sport.
